Sometimes it's so heavy I'm afraid to put it on the page. But like a rotten tooth I guess it's best to get it out, no matter how painful. Sorry for the ugly metaphor!

Re: First Week, First Day

Hi. I'm taking part in the collective as well and looking forward to sharing experiences.

My handwriting is never very legible, but yes, it does get worse as I get more excited about what I'm writing. When I can't think of anything to say I slow down and the letters get "artsier."

Re: First Week, First Day

I'm hearing you - been getting up an hour earlier than normal and finding
that writing with closed eyes is easier than it sounds - LOL.

Re: First Week, First Day

I think I will. Today I actually got up at 6 and stumbled down to the computer, and it actually hurt my eyes, it was so bright. I had to type with my eyes closed for the first page or two. Pen and paper seems like it might be a little more natural and less industrial. But I'm just so lazy, and typing's so easy....

Re: Joining the Artist’s Way Collective

I love your image of the critic as a time share hawker. That's a perfect analogy.
I'm fearful and intimidated too, but I think it's going to be so worth it.

Re: Dreams of Rage » Chicken Teriyaki Bowl #7

Don't you hate those dreams that hit you over the head with stuff you already know? Come on, subconscious, be a little more intriguing and complex. Or maybe we are just simple people?

Re: First Week, First Day

Thanks for the complement on my site! I find doing the pages by hand is very strange. I spend a lot of time on the computer and sometimes it feels like my fingers type without my brain engaged! LOL. Why don't you try a couple days of freehand morning pages just to experiment with the difference?

Re: Dreams of Rage » Chicken Teriyaki Bowl #7

Funny, I had a weird birth dream last night, where no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get to the hospital, which was an enormous, gothic building far off in the distance. etc etc, lots of weird details, but I also wondered if it had to do with starting the Artist's Way (can't get to the scary place I have to to give birth to my creative self blah blah blah).

Re: First Week, First Day

I actually do my morning pages on the computer because my writing is just too messy and I type so much faster (do you think that's "allowed"?), but I do find that about 1.5 pages into it I get stuck, and really have to force myself to finish. Often something interesting comes out at that point (I guess something I was resisting or whatever). I also found the affirmations a bit hokey (just started today) but when I started with the negative stuff first (the "blurts), I was really surprised by how some of the affirmations fit so perfectly and actually made sense to me.
BTW great website. I've also had rage dreams, but that's another topic....

Re: When a Cat Licks Your Face

I once had a cat who never licked, but the one I have now licks me all the time. He's done it his whole life. He especially likes licking my face. He's very insistent, too. I just think of him as a dog and therefore I can psychologically accept that this is normal behavior for him. It makes him happy. After a year of it, my skin has begun to get used to it and it doesn't hurt anymore. He also has a morning routine of following me to the bathroom and insisting that the tap is turned on so he can drink. Then afterwards he follows me into the kitchen so he can lick my face some more.

I just think it's his way of caring for me... in a doggy kind of way. I just soak up his love and treasure it because pets don't live forever and there may be a time where I'll actually miss him scraping my face with his rough tongue.

Re: What Mortgage Crisis?

You might even be able to afford me! <grin> Husband would probably enjoy having someone else foot my spa bills!

Re: What Mortgage Crisis?

Do you realize how many girlfriends I could afford if my rent was $450-$600!

I'm a lifestyle junkie. I do not envy anyone, especially landlords. I am the guy who you don't hear from for months but when something goes wrong I bother you everyday to fix it. Since I now know a landlord I like I will try to be nicer. :)

Re: What Mortgage Crisis?

The older I get, the more my libertarian side over rules my heart. :-(

To tell the truth, it sounds like a lot of property, but our interest in it gives us enough to live on moderately - certainly nothing like the salaries we were pulling down in our corporate days in Seattle. We also live in a double-width "managers home" in the trailer park owned by my inlaws.

That sounded really defensive - but it wasn't intended that way :-). Being a landlord is a job that doesn't necessarily pay all that well, but you are working for yourself at least.

We've got a couple of rentals coming open, Char - you'd be welcome to move out West. I have a feeling rent of $450 - $650 (for a house) is probably much more reasonable than in your neck of the woods!

Re: What Mortgage Crisis?

As a land baron :) you may be a bit biased.

As a closet libertarian I agree with you but as a realist i don't.

Government has to regulate business because if not you get exactly what's happening now...

[but do contact me if you have apts. in the Notheast. I'm always looking for new digs!]

Re: What Mortgage Crisis?

You know I love a good argument, Chartreuse - so caveats needed.

I actually don't think the government should be bailing out banks or mortgage lenders (aka Corporations) either. They should, however, probably be prosecuting them for deceptive practices, if that is indeed what happened. But this should all occur through the court system, not at the government level. If the Corporations are in the wrong, they should have to pay restitution to those they harmed.

In fact, I will admit that the lenders are are problem - extending loans which were clearly untenable. But I'll always fight to the death for the separation of business and government :-) even if it just a wispy, impossible dream....

By way of disclaimer - we are involved in 35+ residential rental properties.

Re: What Mortgage Crisis?

No one loves you more than I do but you are missing a few fries on this one.

Though I agree with all of your points in theory they do not work in real life.

Example: People who make bad decisions should receive the consequences that those bad bring.

If the gov't can bailout corps then don't they have an even greater responsibility to bail out consumers who was told by these same corps. that they could afford these homes though they only work part-time @ Wal-Mart?
If we are going to talk responsibility then it needs to be spread fairly. Don't save BearSterns but leave Joe Sixpack on the corner with all his belongings in a box.

I agree that a home is not an investment. I've bought 2 which now both belong to ex-wives. I wouldn't buy another house with a gun to my head. I proudly rent. It's cheaper for me in so many ways. And it gives me more options, which I think are vastly more important these days.

But individual responsibility only goes so far. At some point we have to take care and look out for our fellow citizens. Even if the problem is their own fault.

Re: When a Cat Licks Your Face

You aren't alone. :) My cat likes to lick on occasion, she used to do it more till I started giving her a little poke when she did.
